No matter the age, I always use the same approach. After vomiting, rest the stomach for an hour or so. Sip Gatorade, sprit, or other transparent liquid. Dehydration is the concern - worse in the elderly and small children and ER may be appropriate especially in this group. If able to tolerate liquid, slowly advance to broth or jello. Avoid dairy! When you are ready for something more substantial, banana, rice, applesauce, toast (crackers) help early stool formation (known as the BRAT diet). Next step add bland foods like plain chicken breast without skin or spicy seasoning. Carbohydrates are easy to digest, so things like bread and rice may be tolerated best. Go slow and start over if vomiting recurs. Dehydration is notable in many ways, if you are not producing urine please seek emergency care.
